Orange Set for U.S. National Team Tryouts

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse will be well represented at the U.S. women's national team tryouts this weekend at Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. Eight either current or former members of the Orange are among the 88 players trying out for the team which ultimately will represent the U.S. at the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Surrey, England.
Rising junior Kayla Treanor will try to make the senior national team for the first time. She was a member of the 2011 U.S. Under-19 squad that won the World Championship. Treanor led the nation in scoring in 2014 with 117 points and was second in goals with a school-record 79. Rising sophomore Taylor Poplawski will also take part in the tryouts. She played in 24 games in her rookie campaign and ranked fourth on the team in goals.
They will be joined by 2014 graduates Kasey Mock, Alyssa Murray and Katie Webster. Mock and Murray earned All-America honors in their senior campaign, while Webster was an All-ACC and All-Northeast Region honoree. In addition, Becca Block '13, Liz Hogan '11 and Michelle Tumolo '13 have been invited to the tryout, which runs June 13-15. All three earned IWLCA Player of the Year honors during their Syracuse careers. Block was the Defender of the Year in 2013, while Tumolo was the Attacker of the Year in 2012. Hogan was the Goalkeeper of the Year in 2010.
Following the three-day tryout, approximately 36-40 players will be selected to the 2014-15 U.S. women's national team, which will train as part of the lead up to the 2017 FIL World Cup. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S. as the team goes for its third consecutive and eighth overall world title.
