The bench accounted for 45 points against Niagara
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's basketball team erupted for a 109-60 victory against in-state foe Niagara on Dec. 10. It marked the second-most points scored in a single game in program history and only the ninth time Syracuse eclipsed the 100-point plateau.
One of the biggest reasons for the Orange's success against the Purple Eagles was their bench. The SU bench accounted for 45 points on the day, its best outing of the 2016-17 season.
Freshman guard Desiree Elmore had her best game in her young collegiate career. Elmore notched 15 points and three rebounds. The Hartford, Conn. native was an efficient 7-for-9 from the field. Without a doubt, this showing provided a glimpse into what the former five-star recruit could do for the Orange.
"This is what Coach expects from me every game," said Elmore in the postgame press conference. "So, now that he knows that it's there I have to continue to keep playing like that and get better."
Senior center Bria Day had a career day against Niagara, as well. Day registered a personal-high 12 points, five rebounds, two blocked shots, and a career-best four steals. She combined with her twin sister, Briana, for 31 points, 11 boards, and five blocks.
Sophomore guard Abby Grant knocked down three 3-point field goals, her second-straight nine-point performance. The Orange hit 11 shots from beyond the arc against their opponent in their final non-conference home game of the 2016-17 regular season.
Syracuse is back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at the Florida Sunshine Classic in Winter Park, Fla. The Orange will take on three-time national champion Old Dominion and 2011 NCAA Tournament champion Texas A&M on the campus of Rollins College.
