Â
In their last outing, the Orange tallied a 109-60 victory against in-state foe Niagara on Dec. 10. It marked the second-most points scored in a single game in program history and only the ninth time SU had eclipsed the 100-point plateau.
Â
Old Dominion comes into the weekday matchup with a 4-3 overall record. In their last contest, the Lady Monarchs scored a 70-60 win against VCU on Dec. 9. Redshirt senior guard Jennie Simms ranks second in the country in scoring on the 2016-17 season, averaging 26.4 points per game.
Â
Recipe for Success
Much of the Syracuse women's basketball program's success can be attributed to its system that preaches creating more possessions and maximizing points per possession. Associate head coach Vonn Read has played a significant role in developing the team's formula for success.
Â
Syracuse looks to gain more possessions than its opposition by collecting offensive rebounds and forcing turnovers on the defensive end. The Orange currently leads the Atlantic Coast Conference and ranks sixth nationally in offensive boards, averaging 19.0 offensive rebounds per game. In addition, the squad paces the conference and ranks third in the country in turnovers forced, notching 25.0 forced turnovers per contest.
Â
To maximize its points per possession, Syracuse has not shied away from shooting the 3-point field goal. The Orange averages 9.7 3-point field goals made per game, which leads the league and ranks seventh in the nation.
Â
Block Party
Senior center Briana Day has been leaving her mark in the Syracuse women's basketball record book. Day and Orange all-time leading scorer Kayla Alexander are the only two players in program history with at least 150 blocked shots and 700 rebounds in their collegiate careers.
Â
Day ranks fifth in program history with 211 career blocked shots. Alexander holds the SU career record, blocking 350 shots from 2010-13. In addition, Day ranks fifth in school history with 908 career rebounds. Nicole Michael, the Orange's all-time leader in boards, collected 996 rebounds from 2007-10.
Â
Against Niagara on Dec. 10, Day notched 19 points and six rebounds. In the process, she became the 27th player in program history and 11th under head coach Quentin Hillsman to notch 1,000 points scored in her collegiate career.
Â
As a junior, Day collected ACC All-Defensive Team honors, her first all-conference recognition of her collegiate career. The center ranked third in the league and 51st nationally in blocks, averaging 1.97 blocked shots per contest.
