Sykes and Peterson up for annual award
LILBURN, Ga. – Redshirt senior guard Brittney Sykes of the Syracuse women's basketball team has been added to the 2017 Wade Trophy Watch List, joining senior guard Alexis Peterson. Syracuse is one of nine programs in the country to have multiple candidates for the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Division I National Player of the Year.
A graduate student seeking her Master's degree in instructional design, development, and evaluation in the School of Education, Sykes is currently averaging 19.1 points, 7.8 rebounds, and 3.5 assists per game. Sykes joins Peterson to form the nation's top-scoring backcourt, combining to score 42.8 points per contest.
The Newark, N.J. native recently passed Erica Morrow (1,658, 2008-11) on the program's all-time scoring list and ranks fourth in school history with 1,673 points scored in her collegiate career. She also ranks fourth in Syracuse women's basketball history with 129 starts to her name.
Sykes and the Orange will take on No. 14/15 Duke in their next contest on Friday night. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. from Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, N.C. The game will be shown on ACC Network Extra.
