WROCLAW, Poland – Alyssa Murray '14 scored four goals to lead Team USA to an 11-8 victory to capture the women's lacrosse gold medal at The World Games in Wroclaw, Poland on Sunday, July 30. The U.S. will return home with two gold medals as it claimed the Federation of International Lacrosse World Cup last weekend in England.
Â
The win was the 12th straight for the United States, which went 8-0 at the World Cup and 4-0 at The World Games. Sunday's game was the closest for the squad on the unbeaten road trip.
Â
The contest was tied at 6-6 before Team USA tallied five unanswered goals in the second half and held Canada without a goal for more than 24 minutes to pull away.
Â
The Canadians rallied, scoring twice in span of 90 seconds to pull within two. Team Canada controlled the following draw, but the U.S. full-field pressure caused a turnover and held on for the victory.
Â
After serving as an alternate for the World Cup, Murray averaged seven points per game in The World Games, finishing with 12 goals and 16 assists. Michelle Tumolo '13 and Becca Block '13 were also members of the gold-medal winning team, while rising senior Taylor Gait played for Team Canada.
