ACC Championships Await Orange

The Syracuse Cross Country teams kick off the start of championship season this Friday at the ACC Championships. The Orange men are looking to return to the top of the podium, while the women are looking to improve on last year's program-best third-place finish.
MEET INFO:
- The meet will be televised on ACC Network Extra. Fans can watch here: Men's Race | Women's Race.
- The men's 8k will go off first at 10 a.m., with the women's 6k to follow at 11 a.m.
- The meet will take place at the Buford Meredith Cross Country Course in Blacksburg, Virginia.

ORANGE AT THE TOP:
- The men's cross country team won the ACC Championship the first five years in the conference.
- That run trailed just Maryland (6) for most consecutive ACC titles in conference history.
- The Syracuse men also had an individual champion in three of the first-six ACC Championships it has competed. Martin Hehir (2014) and Justyn Knight (2016, 2017) won individual crowns. Paige Stoner claimed the first women's title for the program in 2017, sweeping the podium with Knight.
- The 'Cuse women finished third last season, tying their best finish ever at a conference championship meet. The team will look to improve upon that finish this year.
LAST YEAR'S CHAMPIONSHIP:
- Last year, the Syracuse men were runner- ups to Notre Dame, scoring 61 points to Notre Dame's 57 team points.
- All five Syracuse scorers finished in the top-20 and earned All-ACC honors. Aidan Tooker (7), Joe Dragon (8), Kevin James (11th) and Nathan Henderson (18th), are the Orange returners coming off All-ACC performances last season.
- The women's side also ran strong last year, finishing third and tying its best finish in conference history. Laura Dickinson took 11th to lead the Orange, with Rachel Bonner (18th) also earning All-ACC accolades.
Ranking the Orange
- The Syracuse men enter the weekend ranked 28th nationally.
- The men also sit at second in the regional rankings while the women are ranked third
- The men's side will be facing 5 other top-30 ranked teams in Notre Dame (20), Florida State (21), NC State (23), Virginia (23) and Virginia Tech (26) are all ranked alongside 'Cuse
- The women will also face 5 top-30 ranked teams in NC State (6), Florida State (10), Notre Dame (17), Virginia Tech (22) and Boston College (27), making this one of the deepest fields in recent conference history on both sides.
Last Time Out
- The Orange put on a strong show at the John Reif Memorial at Cornell
- Syracuse runners Iliass Aouani and Annie Heffernan, both racing unattached, claimed individual titles by a wide margin.
