
Carney Takes Part in U.S. U19 Training Weekend

SPARKS, Md. – Syracuse rising sophomore Megan Carney scored a pair of goals for the U.S. U19 squad in its exhibition game last Saturday, helping the team to a 12-11 victory against an all-star team consisting of Women's Professional Lacrosse League players and local college athletes. The scrimmage was part of a training weekend at U.S. Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. in preparation for this summer's World Championship.

Carney was one of 23 players named to the U19 training team after the Spring Premiere held in January. The U.S. will hold another training camp at Northwestern University from July 8-10 and then a brief camp at Niagara University in late July. The U.S. final roster will consist of a maximum of 18 players.

The McKinney, Texas native, who is enrolled in the College of Arts and Sciences, made an immediate impact on the Orange in her rookie campaign. Carney ranked third on the team in points (56) and goals (32) and was second in assists (24). She recorded a season-high nine points in Syracuse's win against Virginia Tech on four goals and five assists. The nine points put her in 10th place on Syracuse's single-game record list.

The U19 World Championship is scheduled for Aug. 1-10 in Peterborough, Ontario. The United States has won four of the previous six titles.
