
Syracuse Opens Year 12 On Sunday

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The defending College Hockey America (CHA) champion Syracuse ice hockey team opens the 2019 season with an exhibition on Sunday, Sept. 22, at home against Montreal. Puck drop is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the Tennity Ice Pavilion, and parking and admission are free.
LEADING THE CHARGE
The Orange, who went 13-22-3 overall last season and made their first appearance in the NCAA tournament, are led by redshirt senior captain Lindsay Eastwood. Eastwood is assisted by alternate captains Logan Hicks and Kristen Siermachesky, who are entering their senior and junior years, respectively.
Eastwood was elected co-captain ahead of last season. The Kanata, Ontario, native played 33 games and led all Orange defensemen in goals (9) while ranking third in points (14). She finished the year tied for the team lead in game-winning goals (3) and was second in power-play goals (4). Her postseason efforts earned her a spot on the CHA All-Tournament Team.
Hicks tallied a career-high in points (6), scoring one goal and carding five assists in 38 games. Hicks also logged a career-high 32 blocks during the season.
Siermachesky skated in 31 games for the Orange, recording two goals, an assist, and 30 blocks. One of her goals came in the CHA championship game against Robert Morris and ultimately helped send 'Cuse to the NCAA Tournament.
YEAR 12
Head coach Paul Flanagan enters his 12th season with the program and 21st overall. Flanagan has accumulated a 393-268-64 record since he began coaching, and has led Syracuse to a 163-185-40 record since the team's inception in 2008.
THE OPPONENTS
Montreal finished last season with a 24-6 record, which included a 6-3 exhibition win over Syracuse last September.
LOOKING AHEAD
Syracuse hosts Clarkson in the regular-season home opener on Friday, Sept. 27, at 6 p.m. at the Tennity Ice Pavilion.
