Senior goalie Allison Small matched her career-high with 39 saves and senior Victoria Klimek scored her second goal of the season in Syracuse's 2-1 loss at Penn State. Syracuse (1-3-0 overall, 1-1 College Hockey America) and Penn State will play the second game of the weekend series tomorrow at 2 pm at the Pegula Ice Arena in University Park, Pa.
Â
"Penn State outworked us today in all facets of the game," said head coach Paul Flanagan. "We need to regroup tonight and understand what areas of the game we need to improve on to be successful tomorrow."
Klimek opened the scoring in the game on an unassisted goal just more than eight minutes into the game to give the Orange the lead. Penn State (3-0, 3-0) tied the game six minutes later on a goal by Olivia Wallin and then scored the game-winner with five seconds left in the second period.
Â
Small increased her career saves total to 718 in 28 games, which ranks sixth on the Orange career saves record list. Klimek's goal was the 23rd of her Orange career, giving her 40 points in 114 games.Â
Â
Syracuse leads the series against the Nittany Lions 26-3-6 and has an 8-2-3 record against PSU since the Orange seniors joined the program in 2017-18.
