CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – No. 4/4 Syracuse faces No. 15/17 Virginia on the road on Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m. The two squads will face off for the first time since the Orange defeated the Cavaliers, 12-10, in the first round of the ACC Tournament last season.

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse improved its record to 7-1 and 1-0 in ACC play with an 18-8 victory over Virginia Tech on Sunday. The victory extended the 'Cuse's winning streak to six. Heading into the game, Virginia Tech was allowing only six goals per game. Eight different Orange scored on the Hokies' defense and senior Emily Hawryschuk and sophomores Meaghan Tyrrell (4 g) and Megan Carney (3 g) each recorded a hat trick. Hawryschuk also tied her career-high in assists with three.

The Orange defense is now ranked No. 1 in the nation, allowing 7.00 goals per game. The unit has held all but two opponents to less than 10 goals and have held four opponents to five goals or less. Syracuse ranks 10th in the nation in scoring margin (10.13).

SCOUTING THE CAVALIERS
Virginia is 5-3 and has lost three out of its last four games, including a 16-10 loss to Duke on Saturday. The Cavaliers are 0-2 in conference play with six-goal losses to No. 18 Duke and No. 1 North Carolina.

Senior Sammy Mueller leads Virginia in goals (21) and assists (7) this season. Sophomore Courtlynne Caskins is the only other player on the team with more than 20 points. In goal is redshirt junior Charlie Campbell. She has an 11.84 goals-against average and a .425 save percentage.

SERIES HISTORY
Thursday's game will be the 26th meeting between the two squads. The Orange have a 13-12 all-time edge on the Cavaliers after beating them twice last season.

Syracuse and Virginia have not played since last season's ACC Tournament first round. The Orange led, 9-2, at halftime, but Virginia tallied the first three goals of the second half to cut the advantage to 9-5. Carney scored a woman-up goal with 10:57 remaining to give Syracuse a 12-7 lead. That would be the Orange's last goal as the Cavaliers scored three times in the final five minutes, the last coming with one second on the clock, for the 12-10 final. Hawryschuk led the way for the 'Cuse offense with five points on four goals and an assist, while goalkeeper Asa Goldstock made nine saves.
