Syracuse made its final appearance in the BIG EAST Tournament a memorable one when it took home the title on this date in 2013. The Orange defeated Georgetown, 14-7, in the championship game for its third conference crown.
Kayla Treanor cemented herself as one of the top freshman in school history as she earned the Most Outstanding Player Award. The Niskayuna, N.Y. native finished the tournament with 13 points, including seven in the final on six goals and an assist. She was joined on the All-Tournament Team by senior Becca Block, juniors Alyssa Murray and Natalie Glanell, and sophomores Kailah Kempney and Kelsey Richardson.
The Hoyas led early but a 4-0 scoring run to the end the first half gave the Orange a 6-2 halftime lead. Treanor scored back-to-back goals to cap the run and then struck first in the second half to become the highest-scoring freshman in school history.
A Georgetown free position at the 23:00 mark halted the Hoyas' scoring drought of more than 20 minutes to cut the lead to 7-4. Junior Katie Webster answered with her first goal of the day, which started a 7-1 scoring run that gave Syracuse its largest lead of the day at 14-5 with 9:26 to play. Kempney and Treanor both had two goals during the offensive outburst. Georgetown found the back of the net twice in the final 6:33 for the 14-7 final.
Treanor tied her career high with six goals, while Kempney finished with a hat trick. Murray added a pair of goals, and Devon Collins and Kelly Cross posted two points apiece.
Treanor finished the year with 95 points on 71 goals and 24 assists. She earned IWLCA All-America First Team honors, as did Murray and Block. Block was also named IWLCA Defender of the Year.
With the victory, Syracuse earned the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament where it advanced to the Final Four for the second straight year and fourth time in a span of six years under the direction of head coach Gary Gait.
