As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Morgan State in the Carrier Dome on Wednesday, Nov. 17 (7 pm., ACCNX), we continue our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with freshman Julianna Walker.Â
1. After growing up on the west coast, what are the biggest differences you've felt since moving to the east coast to attend Syracuse?Â
The biggest differences so far have been the time zone and colder weather.Â
2. Who do you model your game after?Â
I model my game after Sue Bird, Stephen Curry and Diana Taurasi.Â
3. You grew up a fan of the Seattle Storm and watching Sue Bird play, can you talk about the first time you met her? How has players like her and others in the WNBA impacted you?
The first time I met her was a dream. It was when I was younger and I waited in line to get a picture with her after the Storm's win at Key Arena. I can remember my dad saying something along the lines of 'she's going to be the next Sue Bird one day' and then I got my picture with her. Sue Bird and other WNBA players have impacted the game for me by proving that women are just as great as wen are at basketball.Â
4. We hear you are an avid baker. what do you like to bake?Â
My favorite thing to bake is my infamous snickerdoodle cookies. At every holiday dinner they are usually the first things gone.Â
5. You grew up playing football with your two brothers, how has the competitiveness and toughness from that translated into your basketball career?
It definitely made me tougher which was part of the reason I wanted to play. The other part was that I wanted to prove girls could play football and be just as good as boys.Â
6. What is your favorite on campus and why?Â
My favorite place on campus is the lowest level of the Schine Student Center. It's a nice place to study and if I'm hungry I can just go upstairs and grab food.Â
7. What stood out to you about Syracuse and why did you decide to play here?Â
Not only is Syracuse one of the best basketball programs, it's also one of the best schools for my major. Being at Syracuse has also given me the chance to experience what living on the east coast is like.Â
8. If you had to invite three people to with with you for one month on a deserted island whom would they be and why?Â
I would invite Tori Kelly, because she is one of my favorite singers, Kevin Hart because he wont fail to make us all laugh and Steph Curry because I can pick his brain about basketball.
9. What are your personal goals for the season and what is your goal for the team?Â
My personal goal is to get better every day and to help us reach our team goals. I want to help continue the tradition of making it to the NCAA Tournament.Â
10. We are headed to The Bahamas in a few days, what are you looking forward to most about the Bad Boy Mowers Women's Battle 4 Atlantis tournament?Â
I look forward to making lots of memories with my girls on the court and at the beach.Â
