Â
Syracuse (3-8-1 overall, 3-6-1 College Hockey America) is on an 11-game winning streak against the Lions, dating back to February 2018. Last weekend, the Orange lost to Mercyhurst in the closing seconds, 2-1, while Lindenwood (2-7-1) tied Penn State, 2-2, in its last contest (1/30/2021).
Â
Top 10 Performance
Syracuse is second in the nation in combined special teams (60.2%/50-of-83) and ranks in the top five in penalty kills. The Orange are ranked fifth in penalty kill (93.6%) and are tied for 11th in power play goals (16.7%/16-of-36).
Â
Leaders Against the Lions
Seniors Emma Polaski and Jessica DiGirolamo lead this year's team in scoring against the Lions. They each have 18 points (8 G/10 A for Polaski; 5 G/13 A for DiGirolamo).
Â
Moloughney Joins 60 Point Club
Junior Abby Moloughney joined the Orange ice hockey 60 Point Club after finding the net goal in a Syracuse loss to Mercyhurst, 5-2, at Tennity Ice Pavilion on Friday. She has tallied 25 goals and 35 assists in her 86 career games. She joins the likes of current Orange skaters Emma Polaski and Jessica DiGirolamo. Moloughney is the youngest active skater on the list at just 20 years old.
Batherson Creating Offense
Sophomore Mae Batherson has scored a point in each of the last three games for the Orange, including an assist at RIT last week and a goal and an assist in the weekend series against Mercyhurst.Â
Â
Small Stands Tall
Goalie Allison Small holds the Syracuse career save percentage record with a .919 mark. She has recorded 25 or more saves in 23 of her 36 career games, and 30 or more saves in 16 of those contests. Her 44 saves against Penn State on Dec. 6 ties for the third-best save total in NCAA women's hockey in 2020-21 (as of Jan. 17) and ties for ninth on Syracuse's single-game record list.
Â
Getting the Point Across
Chances are when an Orange skater scores a goal or tallies an assist, there will be more points to follow from them in the same game. Four Syracuse players have three 2+ goal games, two have eight 2+ assist games, and two more have five 3+ point games. The overall leader is junior Abby Moloughney, who has two 2+ goal games, eight 2+ assist games, and five 3+ point games on the season.
