CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The top two women's lacrosse teams in the nation square off on Saturday, April 3 when No. 2 Syracuse visits No. 1 North Carolina. Opening draw in Chapel Hill is set for 11 a.m.

ORANGE UPDATE
Syracuse (6-0, 4-0) is coming off a 17-10 come-from-behind victory against Virginia Tech last Saturday. The Orange trailed by two, 7-5, with 3:34 remaining in the first half before Meghan Tyrrell and Megan Carney netted back-to-back goals to send the teams into the locker room at halftime tied, 7-7.

The Orange came out firing in the second half, scoring seven consecutive goals to take control of the game. Carney scored three of the game's final four goals to give Syracuse its sixth consecutive win to start the season.

Carney finished with a career-high six goals, while Tyrrell had four goals and two assists. Ella Simkins also posted a career high with eight draw controls.

DEFENSE STANDING STRONG
Syracuse's defense held Virginia Tech without a goal for 29:01, allowing the Orange to go on a 9-0 scoring run. It marked the third time this season that the 'Cuse has held its opponent scoreless for a span of more than 20 minutes.

Goalkeeper Asa Goldstock ranks fourth in the nation in save percentage (.545) and 14th in both saves per game (10.17) and goals-against average (9.13). In addition, junior Sarah Cooper leads the ACC and ranks 11th nationally in caused turnovers per game (2.17).

North Carolina enters Saturday's game with a 10-0 record, including a 4-0 mark in conference play. The Tar Heels haven't lost since the 2019 NCAA Tournament semifinals.

Jamie Ortega and Katie Hoeg lead the North Carolina offense. Ortega has 43 goals and 14 assists, while Hoeg has 19 goals and 31 assists. The Tar Heels are allowing just 5.40 goals per game, which ranks number one in the nation. Goalkeeper Taylor Moreno has a .615 save percentage.

Jenny Levy is in her 26th season at the helm of the North Carolina program. She ranks third in NCAA Division I history in career wins and is a two-time national coach of the year.
