Najé Murray and Eboni Walker will join the Syracuse women's basketball for the 2021-22 season. Murray and Walker are the third and fourth players that will transfer to Syracuse this offseason, joining Shalexxus Aaron (USC) and Jayla Thornton (Howard).
Murray, a Stockton, Calif., native began her collegiate career at San Diego State where she played her freshman and sophomore years. She transferred to Texas Tech prior to the 2020-21 season and played in 25 games starting 19 for the Red Raiders. Se averaged 7.4 points, 3.6 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game while shooting 37 percent from three-point range and 78 percent from the free throw line. In high school, Murray was ranked 30th among guards in her class and was identified as a three-star recruit with a 90 scout grade by ESPNW. Murray was a three-year letter winner at Saint Mary's High School (Stockton, Calif.,) where she scored 1,000 points during her high school career.
Walker played her freshman and sophomore seasons at Arizona State before deciding to transfer to Syracuse. She appeared in 53 games for the Sun Devils with nine starts, all of which were during her sophomore campaign (2020-21). The Las Vegas, Nev., native led the team in field goal percentage in each of her two seasons in Tempe. As a sophomore, shot 41.8 percent from the field and ranked eighth in the Pac-12 in offensive rebounds (2.4 rpg). She averaged 7.2 points per game and shot 74.5 percent from the charity stripe. Walker was the Nevada Gatorade State Player of the Year coming out of high school and led Centennial HS to a 31-1 record and a fifth-straight Class 4A Championship in 2019.
Syracuse reached its eight-consecutive NCAA Tournament and posted a 15-9 record and finished the season fourth in the ACC. The Orange advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament with a 72-55 win over South Dakota State, avenging a 2019 NCAA Tournament Second Round loss to the Jackrabbits. The addition of Murray and Walker will help bolster the Orange's three-point shooting after a season in which Syracuse shot 30.4 percent from behind the arc, 13th in the ACC.
