SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Syracuse makes its debut in the 2021 NCAA Women's Lacrosse Tournament on Sunday, May 16 when it takes on Loyola (Md.) in the second round. Opening draw in the Carrier Dome is set for 1 p.m.

ORANGE UPDATE
No. 3 seed Syracuse will take the field for the first time in two weeks on Sunday. The Orange last played on May 2 when it lost to No. 1 North Carolina, 9-4, in the championship game of the ACC Tournament. Syracuse enters Sunday's game with a 14-3 record, which includes a 6-1 mark at home.

Junior Meaghan Tyrrell leads a balanced offensive attack as five players have scored 30 or more goals in 2021. Tyrrell has posted career highs in points (86), goals (52) and assists (34) and has climbed into the top 10 on Syracuse's career assists leader list (63).

The Orange's defensive unit ranks 12th in the nation in scoring defense (9.47). Graduate student Ella Simkins and junior Sarah Cooper are tied for the top spot in the ACC in caused turnovers per game (1.76), while graduate student Kerry Defliese is fifth (1.47). All three earned All-ACC honors, as did goalkeeper Asa Goldstock, who ranks 10th in the nation in goals-against average (9.31).

'CUSE IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT
Syracuse is making its ninth consecutive appearance in the NCAA Tournament and 13th in the past 15 years (2020 tournament cancelled due to COVID-19 pandemic). The Orange are 18-17 all-time in tournament play.

The 'Cuse earned the No. 3 seed in this year's tournament, marking its highest seed since 2014 when it was the second seed.

The Orange have won 11 of their last 13 tournament openers, including a 14-8 win against Georgetown in the second round of the 2019 NCAA Tournament.

SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
Loyola advanced to the NCAA Tournament second round by defeating Hofstra, 11-9, in the opening round on Friday in the Dome. The win extended the Greyhounds' winning streak to 12 and improved their record to 12-2.

Livy Rosenzweig leads Loyola in points (79), goals (33) and assists (46) this season. She had four assists in Loyola's win against the Pride on Friday to become the Patriot League's career leader with 180 assists in 61 games. Kaitlyn Larsson has started all 14 games in goal for Loyola. She has a 7.94 goals-against average and a .525 save percentage.

Jen Adams is in her 13th season at the helm of the Loyola program. She has guided the Greyhounds to nine NCAA Tournament appearances.

Sunday's game marks the 22nd all-time meeting between the schools and the second this season. Syracuse owns a 16-5 advantage in the series.

The squads met in Baltimore on Feb. 20 to open the 2021 campaign. The Orange jumped out to an early lead and defeated Loyola, 18-6.

Syracuse hosted Loyola in the quarterfinals of the 2015 NCAA Tournament. The Orange won, 10-7, to punch the program's sixth all-time ticket to the Final Four.
