
Orange Invited to Team USA Tryout

SPARKS, Md. – Sarah Cooper, Emily Hawryschuk, and Sam Swart have each been invited to the official tryout for the U.S. team that will represent the country at the 2022 World Lacrosse Women's World Championship.

Cooper has anchored the Orange defense with team-highs in ground balls (44) and caused turnovers (31) this season. A Tewaaraton Award nominee, Cooper ranks second in the ACC in both caused turnovers per game (1.72) and ground balls (2.44) per game.

Hawryschuk set team-standards in points (46) and goals (39) during the eight-game 2020 season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 pandemic. She is currently recovering from an ACL tear in practice that ended her season after one game. Hawryschuk ranks fifth in both career points (254) and career goals (209) in Syracuse history.

Swart has surged for the Orange at midfield this season. She is tied with Emma Tyrrell for the third-most goals on the team (34) and ranks sixth on the team in points (41). Swart has started all 18 contests for the Orange this season.

Cooper, Hawryschuk, and Swart will be joined at the tryouts by former Orange Becca Block '13, Liz Hogan '11, Kayla Treanor '16 and Michelle Tumolo '13. Block, Treanor and Tumolo helped Team USA win gold at the 2017 World Championship in Guildford, England, while Hogan is a veteran of the national team program.

Former Florida standout and current Syracuse assistant coach, Sydney Pirreca, has also earned an invite to tryouts. She was the seventh player in Florida history to reach 200 points and was an IWLCA third-team All-American in 2018.

The U.S. team tryouts will be held at USA Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md., from June 9-11, 2021. The world championship will be hosted by USA Lacrosse from June 29-July 9, 20211 at Towson University in Towson, Md., marking the first time the event has been held in the United States since 2005.
