ORANGE UPDATE
To advance to Sunday's championship game, the Orange (17-3) had to contain the Northwestern offense, which owned the best goals per game in the nation. After Lindsey McKone opened the scoring 53 seconds into the contest, the Syracuse defense got the job done by holding the Wildcats to one goal over the course of nearly 26 minutes. During the stretch, the 'Cuse outscored Northwestern 10-1 and took a commanding 10-2 lead. The Wildcats would tally the final two goals of the frame to cut Orange advantage to six, 10-4, at halftime.
With Syracuse ahead 14-6 with 21:25 remaining in the contest, Northwestern began to mount a comeback. The Wildcats went on a 6-1 scoring run over the course of 12 minutes that included pairs of goals from Jane Hansen and the nation's leading goal-scorer, Izzy Scane, to trim the Orange lead to 15-12 with 7:27 remaining in the game. However, the Orange offense proved too strong and outscored Northwestern 6-1 over the remainder of the contest to secure a 21-13 victory and advance to the national championship game.
Syracuse's 21 goals are a season-high and the most by the team since also scoring 21 goals against Colgate on February 24, 2020. Meaghan Tyrrell led the team in points (8) and goals (5) while tying with Emily Ehle and Emma Ward for the team-lead in assists with three. Ward, Jenny Markey, Sam Swart, and Emma Tyrrell each tallied hat tricks for the Orange while Ehle scored a pair of goals.
Graduate goalkeeper Asa Goldstock stopped 10 shots during the contest, improving her career saves total to 659. She needs just one save to tie Liz Hogan's program record for career saves (660).
The win improved Syracuse's record in NCAA Tournament games to 21-17 and upped its record in national semifinal contests to 3-5. The Orange have previously appeared in two national championship games. The team suffered an 8-6 setback against Northwestern in 2012 and lost 15-12 to Maryland in 2014.
TYRRELL MAKING HER MARK
Junior Meaghan Tyrrell is having one of the best offensive seasons in the nation and in program history. In the latest Division I statistics, she ranks second in points (110), seventh in goals (67) and 11th in assists (43). That total ties her for 10th place on Syracuse's single-season record list. Those totals rank among the top 10 single-season totals in school history. Her points and assists totals are tied for fourth, while her goal total ranks eighth.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
Boston College pulled off what was perhaps the biggest upset of the women's lacrosse season on Friday, when it knocked off undefeated No. 1 North Carolina by an 11-10 margin. The victory improved the Eagles' overall record to 17-3 on the season. Syracuse's ACC foe dispatched Fairfield, Temple, and Notre Dame before defeating the Tar Heels to advance to Sunday's showdown.
Boston College's attacking brigade is led by senior attack Charlotte North. The Dallas, Texas native ranks second in the nation in goals (96), third in the country in goals per game (4.80) and is tied for fourth in points (108) among all Division I players. She needs just four goals to match Courtney Murphy's Division I goal record (100) that was set at Stony Brook in 2016. Graduate attack Cara Urbank (37G, 42A) and junior attack Jenn Medjid join North with 70+ points on the season.
Acacia Walker-Weinstein is in her ninth year at the helm in Chestnut Hill. She owns a 134-44 record while guiding the Eagles.
Â
THE SERIES
The Orange own a 17-7 advantage in the all-time series against the Eagles, with three of the 20 previous matchups coming in a nine-day span this season.
In the first pairing between the schools this year, a late player-up goal from Jenn Medjid pushed Boston College past Syracuse, 14-13, in the Carrier Dome.
The teams faced off again in Syracuse just three days later, when six goals from Emma Tyrrell carried the Orange past the Eagles, 16-7.
In the third installment of the series in the ACC Tournament semifinals, Ward scored her fifth goal of the game with 1:39 remaining to break a deadlock at 17 and Emma Tyrrell deposited an empty net goal in the final minute to secure a 19-17 victory.
