As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Colgate in the JMA Wireless Dome on Thursday, Nov. 10 (7 p.m., ACCNX), we begin our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with sophomore captain Kyra Wood.Â
Who is your favorite athlete of all time?
KW: This is bad since I am a basketball player, so I am going to say two. My favorite football player is Josh Allen. I am a huge Buffalo Bills fan; everyone should know that. On the basketball side, I am going to go with Jordan Poole; he has been evolving lately, coming out of his shell a little bit.
If you were not a basketball player what sport would you play?
KW: Volleyball – I played volleyball for five years in high school and I loved it - it was super fun. The team culture was similar to our team culture here.
Which would you rather do, dishes or laundry?
KW: I rather do laundry, but I am bad at laundry. When it comes off the dryer it sits there for a few hours and then I forget to come back. But dishes, I can't touch the food.
What teammate would you want to be stranded on an island with?
KW: I would want to be stranded with Georgia Woolley. We are similar in our spontaneous way, and I feel like it would not be boring with her.
What is one word that you would use to describe Coach Jack?
KW: Passionate. She is full of light and all about basketball. She is all about you, all about what you want to do in the future, your character, and always has the players best interest at heart.
If you could challenge one WNBA player to a game of 1-on-1, who are you calling up?
KW: Let me think of a small forward. Emily Engstler, she played at Syracuse!
Would you rather sing in front of 30,000 people or dance in front of 30,000 people?
KW: Sing. This is a secret but people on this team think that I can't sing but I don't sing in front of people.
How would you describe your game on the court?
KW: Very disciplined and focused. I am a good listener and if I am doing something incorrect, I can be corrected very easily.
What is the best gift you have been given?
KW: I was given a huge party for my graduation.
What are your goals for the season?
KW: I am trying to break out of my comfort zone a little bit. I am a little reserved and shy. Coach Jack has told me multiple times that I am good enough and once I have that confidence in myself, I know I can be that type of player. I want to be consistent with my confidence.
