Over the next few weeks, the incoming 2022 field hockey class will be announced. We continue the series with this week's Welcome Wednesday on Jannemijn Deutman.
Â
Jannemijn Deutman, a 5-foot-10 defender from Rotterdam, Netherlands, will attend Syracuse University and play field hockey for the Orange this fall.
"Jannemijn is a fit and fast defender," head coach Ange Bradley said. "She has tremendous vision, tactical awareness and very strong technical skills."
Deutman plays for HC Rotterdam in the Landelijke, which is the top league for youth hockey in Netherlands. She has been playing field hockey for over 11 years and has develped into a smart defender with game awareness. In 2020, her team had a runner up finish at the Dutch National Indoor Championship.
Deutman chose Syracuse because she felt a good connection with the coaches and felt comfortable right away. She wants to become a better version of herself on and off the field while at Syracuse and hopes to win an ACC and NCAA Championship.
When asked what SU players she looks up, Deutman said she admires Pleun Lammers and Charlotte de Vries for their scoring capability.
