Forward Sarah Thompson and defenseman Kailey Langefels tallied goals for the Orange in a 3-2 loss at Robert Morris on Sunday. Syracuse's penalty kill defense turned RMU away three times, extending it's streak of penalty kills to 12 in the last four games.
Â
After a back-and-forth first period with no scoring, the Orange (3-9-1 overall, 0-4 College Hockey America) jumped out to a 1-0 lead early in the second period when forward Sarah Thompson deflected a shot from defenseman Rachel Teslak into the RMU (6-6-0, 3-1) goal. Marielle McHale started the play with a pass from the right circle to the blue line where Teslak fired her shot. The goal is Thompson's third of the year and 23rd of her 100-game Syracuse career. The Colonials evened the score six minutes later on a goal by Shailynn Snow.
Â
In the third period, Langefels evened the score, 2-2, tallying a power play goal less than two minutes after RMU had taken a 2-1 lead. Forwards Maya D'Arcy and Nea Tervonen assisted on the goal. With seven minutes remaining in the third period, RMU scored the game-winner.
Â
Syracuse goaltender Allie Kelley recorded 36 saves for the second game in a row for a series total of 72. She has had at least 35 saves in five consecutive games, and at least 32 saves in nine games this season.
Â
The Orange will host Lindenwood on Nov. 17 and 18 on Alumni Weekend at Tennity Ice Pavilion. Puck drop on Friday, Nov. 17 is 6 pm.
