Syracuse scored six of the final eight goals of regulation, including a pair of scores in the final three minutes, to force overtime and came away with a 7-7 tie at Lindenwood on Friday. Six different Orange skaters scored in the game, including two goals by defenseman Rachel Teslak. Forward Tatum White tallied in the game-tying goal with eight seconds remaining in the third to extend the game to overtime. The Kingston, Ontario native, who assisted on the first Orange goal, joined the Syracuse 50 Point Club with her two points in the game. Teslak assisted on White's game-tying goal and paced the Orange offense with three points.
Â
"Down 3-0 after the first and 5-1 at one point in the second, it would have been easy to let that game get away from us. What a gutsy comeback effort by our entire group. They believed it could be done and stuck together to continue find a way to fight their way back into that game," said head coach Britni Smith. "It will be important tomorrow to make sure we settle into our defensive game quickly. It will be playoff-style hockey tomorrow for sure and we need to be ready right from the get-go."
Â
The Orange (6-20-3 overall, 3-10-2 College Hockey America) will play the series finale at Lindenwood (10-15-2, 5-8-2) on Saturday at 2:30 pm (ET).
Â
Lindenwood opened the game with a pair of goals within the first five minutes and added another with 10 seconds remaining in the opening frame to take a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. In the second period, Orange forward Kate Holmes scored at the 2:52 mark to make the score 3-1. It was the first of four Syracuse goals in the middle frame, which is the most for the Orange in one period this season.
Â
After Lindenwood scored two goals in less than a minute to take a 5-1 lead at the 5:51 mark in the second, Teslak started the Syracuse comeback with a shorthanded goal on assists from Sarah Thompson and Rayla Clemons. Orange forward Darci Johal made the score 5-3 just 40 seconds later scoring on an assist from Kailey Langefels. The Lions increased their lead back to three, 6-3, on a goal with 8:12 left in the second period. Clemons then scored Syracuse's second short-handed goal of the game, on an assist from Thompson, to make the score 6-4 with less than four minutes left in the second.
Â
In the third period, Teslak scored an unassisted goal to get the Orange within one, 6-5, at the 3:23 mark. Lindenwood scored five minutes later to regain a two-goal advantage, 7-5. Syracuse fought back to tie the game on goals by forward Heidi Knoll and White. With 2:13 left in the third, Knoll made it a one-goal game on assists from Nea Tervonen and Kambel Beacom and then White put the game-tying goal away, on an assist from Teslak, to send the game to overtime. Neither team scored in the five-minute extra session ending the game in a 7-7 tie.
