
Lawler, Orange Men Win Spiked Shoe Invite

The Syracuse men's cross country team won its second-straight meet to open the season, and Sam Lawler claimed the individual title at the Harry Groves Spiked Shoe Invitational.
The 'Cuse women turned in a runner-up performance, led by Savannah Roark, who took third overall.
It was another dominant day for the 'Cuse men, which placed four inside the top-eight and all-five scorers in the top-13 of the field to claim 31 points – 39 ahead of second-place Georgetown. Lawler beat Navy's Murphy Smith to the line by a half second, crossing the line in 24:55.5 for the win. Assaf Harari (24:56.0) finished third. Benne Anderson (25:00.5), Alex Comerford (25:05.5) and Connor Ackley (25:18.8), took sixth, eighth and 13th, respectively to round out the SU scoring.
Julian Franjieh (25:34.0) placed 20th, followed three spots behind by Ethan Wechsler (25:35.4). Ruben Rojas Betanzos (25:47.6), Kamari Miller (26:19.8), Gabriel Planty (26:21.9) and Patrick Malone (27:40.6) also raced.
Roark led the women with her third-place finish in a time of 20:18.6. Rylie Lusk was ninth in 20:43.6, followed by Emma Eastman (20:44.9) in 12th. True freshman Jayden Harberts (20:56.0) and Heidi Demeo (20:59.7) placed 18th and 20th to finish the scoring. Nyah Hernandez was four spots behind Demeo in 21:03.4, followed in 27th by Madeline Heintz (21:05.7). Beatriz Fernandes (21:22.7), Olivia Joly (21:29.7), Sarah Lawson (21:38.9), Bethany Steiner (21:40.4), Justus Holden-Betts (21:46.8), Grace Finnegan (21:56.4), Baneet Bains (22:02.2) and Olivia Shattuck (22:06.2) also ran for the Orange.
'Cuse is back in action in two weeks at the Nuttycombe Wisconsin Invitational.
