Orange Dominate Canisius

The Syracuse women's basketball team defeated Canisius 96-72 on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at the JMA Wireless Dome. Orange trio Laila Phelia (22), Dominique Darius (21) and Uche Izoje (17) all scored double digits tonight, accounting for 60 points.Â

HOW IT HAPPENEDÂ
Laila Phelia took charge in the first quarter, collecting double digits and going a perfect 5-5 from the field. Journey Thompson followed along, shooting for 100 percent and adding six points of her own to the board as SU posted a 32-11 lead after 10 minutes of play.Â

Dominique Darius found her flame, scoring multiple buckets to extend the Orange lead to 53-34 to end the first half. She added a shot from beyond the arc and continued with a fadeaway jumper and a fastbreak steal in three consecutive drives. Â

Uche Izoje shot a clean 3-3, as well as three sunk shots from the line to tally nine points in the third quarter. The Griffins picked up the momentum in the second half, outscoring the Orange, but Syracuse was still able to hold a 72-55Â lead.Â

Syracuse closed out the fourth quarter, defeating Canisius 96-72, the first 90-point game for the Orange since facing Virginia Tech on Feb. 6, 2025. SU kept steady throughout the final 10 minutes, with seven different players adding to the Orange score.Â

- The Orange scored 19 of its 32 points off turnovers in the first quarter alone.Â
- Syracuse's 53 points in the first half is the most the Orange have scored since facing Coppin State on Dec. 8, 2022 (51 points).Â
- Dominique Darius and Laila Phelia scored 20+ points each, the most since Sophie Burrows tallied 23 against Boston College on March 5, 2025.Â
- This is the first time two Orange players have scored over 20 points since Georgia Wooley (25) and Sophie Burrows (21) against Pittsburgh on Feb. 27, 2025.Â
- The Orange made 35 field goals, the most since facing Virginia Tech on Feb. 6, 2025.Â
- Uche Izoje recorded her career best 17 points in tonight's game and second double digit game in a row.Â
- This is the first season in the Coach Jack era that the starting lineup has remained the same for the first three games.Â
