
McBride Scores 1,000th in SU Loss

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Junior Julie McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y./Catholic Central) notched her 1,000th career point as Syracuse lost a 48-44 decision to Seton Hall Tuesday night at Manley Field House. The Orangewomen are 6-11 overall and 1-5 in BIG EAST play. Seton Hall improved to 9-6 and 3-2 in conference.
McBride is now 14th on the all-time career list with 1,007 points. She hit the 1,000-point mark with a three-pointer with 12:09 remaining in the first half. McBride is only the fourth Syracuse junior to reach the milestone, and first since Holly Oslander in 1992-93.
Junior Shannon Perry (Providence, R.I./ LaSalle) led the way for the Orangewomen, going 7-of-11 from the field for a game-high 14 points. Perry also pulled down eight rebounds. It is the first time this season Perry has gone consecutive games without recording a double-double. McBride finished with 10 points, going 2-for-5 from 3-point range, while Tierra Jackson (Upper Marlboro, MD/ Frederick Douglass) finished with 10 rebounds, eight points and three blocked shots.
SU led 23-21 at the half, while out rebounding the Pirates 23-12. The Orangewomen shot 43.5 percent (10-23) in the first half, while limiting Seton Hall to 31.0 percent from the floor (9-29).
Syracuse opened the second-half with an 8-3 run, putting the Orange up 31-25 at the 17:54 mark. SU led 40-37 with 9:15 remaining in the game, but scored just four more points the rest of the way. Seton Hall hit 3-of4 free throws in the final 10 seconds to seal the victory.
The Orangewomen will travel to Coral Gables to take on Miami on Saturday at 7 p.m.
