SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's ice hockey lost a hard fought game to Clarkson, 3-2, on Friday. Sophomore Isabel Menard tallied both of SU's goals, including one with 1:23 remaining in regulation, but the Orange ran out of time in the non-conference matchup.
The Orange and the Golden Knights played 22:31 of scoreless hockey before Menard put the first goal in the board. On a power-play opportunity, senior Julie Rising and freshman Akane Hosoyamada found a wide open Menard near the blue line, who fired a lofty shot past Clarkson goaltender Lauren Dahm.
The Golden Knights fought back to even the score on a power-play with six minutes remaining in the second period. Clarkson stuck again less than two minutes later to give them the 2-1 lead heading into the locker room.
Clarkson increased its lead to two goals with 7:10 left to play in the matchup. With less than two minutes remaining, Menard took the puck the length of the ice, beating several Golden Knight defenders, and registered her second goal of the night to bring the Orange within one. SU fired three shots on net in the last minute of play, but could not manage to produce the game-tying goal.
Freshman goaltender Kallie Billadeau earned her fifth start in goal and turned away 21 shots.
The Orange will travel to Potsdam, N.Y. for a rematch with Clarkson next Friday, November 12 at 3 p.m. at Cheel Arena.
