The Syracuse ice hockey team (2-5-0) looks to end a three-game losing skid when the Orange hosts Union for two games this weekend at Tennity Ice Pavilion. SU is looking for its first home victory of the season after a 0-2-0 start. The Orange is in the midst of a five-game home stand. SU dropped a 3-1 contest to Colgate on Wednesday, and will host Connecticut for two games next weekend.
Storylines Vs. Union
SU faces Union for the fifth and sixth time this weekend, with SU holding a 4-0-0 all-time series lead. The teams met twice last year in Schenectady, with the Orange skating away with 3-1 and 5-0 victories. Union has struggled out of the gates this season, posting a 1-4-0 record. The Dutchwomen have faced three common opponents to the Orange this season in Minnesota (L, 1-6), St. Cloud State (L, 1-4) and Northeastern (L, 1-2).
Union is led by playmaking freshman forward Bryanne Panchuck. She leads the team with four points and three assists. Panchuk has one goal, and is tied for ninth in the nation in rookie scoring with 1.00 points per game. Sophomore forward Stefanie Thomson and Senior forward Lauren Hoffman team with Panchuck to form a formidable front line. Thomson and Hoffman are tied for second on the team with three points.
Thomson has two goals and one assist, while Hoffman has one goal and two assists. Thomson is tied with freshman defenseman Kelly Mcgrath for the team-lead in plus-minus at +3. Freshman goalie Shenae Lundberg has started all three games in net for Union. She has 53 saves and an .828 save percentage.
The Dutchwomen are operating at 75% on the penalty kill this season (18-of-24), while the power play is operating a 11.1% (3-of-27). SU is 12-14-3 all-time against ECAC foes.
Up Next: Connecticut
