SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5/5 Syracuse looks to remain unbeaten in conference play when it hosts No. 7/7 Notre Dame in the Carrier Dome on Friday, April 19 at 7 p.m. The Orange (10-3) is in first place in the BIG EAST with a 5-0 record, while the Fighting Irish (11-1) are second with a 5-1 mark in league play.
CBS Sports will televise Friday's contest. The game will also be broadcast live on WJPZ 89.1FM in the Syracuse area. Fans can follow the action on SUathletics.com with live video and audio on Orange All Access as well as live stats. A CLOSER LOOK AT THE ORANGE
Syracuse extended its winning streak with a 16-4 victory against Cornell in the Carrier Dome on Tuesday, April 16. Sophomore Kailah Kempney (Carthage, N.Y.) led SU with five points on two goals and a career-high three assists.
The Orange jumped out to an early lead, recording the first five goals of the game. Cornell scored twice to cut the lead to three, but the Orange responded with an 8-0 scoring run that extended into the second half and gave SU a 13-2 advantage. Freshman Kayla Treanor started the run with back-to-back goals before Kempney and junior Alyssa Murray found the back of the net to put Syracuse on top 9-2 at halftime.
Sophomore Devon Collins extended the offensive burst in the first minute of the second half and senior Linley Block capped the run with an unassisted goals. Kelly Lang briefly halted Cornell's scoring drought with her second goal of the day, but Syracuse posted three of the final four goals of the game to post the 16-4 victory.
Treanor finished with four goals, while Murray had three goals and an assist. Sophomore Kelsey Richardson made two saves in the first 38:51 before junior Alyssa Costantino had two saves in the final 21:09.
SCOUTING THE FIGHTING IRISH
Notre Dame enters Friday's game with an 11-1 record. Its only loss of the season was a 14-13 setback in double overtime to Loyola on April 12. The Fighting Irish are coming off a 13-12 victory against Georgetown on April 14.
Jenny Granger and Jaimie Morrison lead the Notre Dame offense. Granger has amassed 42 points this season on 26 goals and 16 assists, while Morrison is right behind with 40 points on 22 goals and 18 assists. Ellie Hilling has started all 12 games in goal this season for the Fighting Irish. She has an 8.69 goals-against average and a .476 save percentage.
Christine Halfpenny is in her second year as the head coach at Notre Dame after five seasons in the same position at the College of William & Mary. In her first year at Notre Dame, the Fighting Irish finished 13-5 and earned bids to both the BIG EAST and NCAA Tournaments.
THE SERIES
Friday's game will be the 18th all-time meeting between Syracuse and Notre Dame. The Orange has won 12 of the previous 17 meetings, including the last three contests.
