Â
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The No. 19/22 Syracuse University women's basketball teams hosts in-state foe Canisius on Tuesday night. The game is slated to begin at 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome and will be broadcast on Time Warner Cable SportsChannel and ESPN3.
Â
In its last game, Syracuse defeated North Carolina Central, 70-25, on Dec. 14. It marked the fewest points allowed by an Orange team since Syracuse scored an 87-17 victory against Delaware State on Dec. 4, 2010.
Â
For the second time this season, Syracuse will face an in-state opponent when it matches up against Canisius on Tuesday night. The Orange owns a 195-81 (.707) all-time record against teams that hail from New York. In addition, Syracuse has not lost to an in-state foe since a 70-58 loss against St. John's on Jan. 11, 2012.
Â
From Downtown
Junior guard Brianna Butler has continued to prove she is a threat from anywhere on the court for opposing defenses. Butler currently averages 12.0 points per game, which ranks third on the team and 27th in the ACC.
Â
One could easily say that Butler's strength is her 3-point shooting. With 2.63 3-point field goals made per game, she ranks second in the ACC and 52nd in the nation. Butler has knocked down four 3-point field goals on three different occasions during the 2014-15 season.
Â
At the Junkanoo Jam, Butler averaged 15.5 points per game against East Carolina and No. 1/2 South Carolina. She registered seven 3-point field goals in two games in the Bahamas. Butler is now 56 3-point field goals shy of the Syracuse career record currently held by Julie McBride, who sank 229 from 2001-04.
Â
The King of Prussia, Pa. native led the ACC (17th in NCAA) in 3-point field goals made per game (3.03) in 2013-14. Her 100 3-pointers set a SU single-season record as she became just the third player in ACC history to break triple-digits in a season. She ranked second on the team in scoring and 17th in the ACC with an average of 14.5 points per game, as well.
Â
Record Rankings
The Syracuse University women's basketball team continues its climb up the national polls, as the squad ranks No. 19 nationally in the latest release of the AP Poll. It marks the highest the team has ever been ranked in the AP Poll.
Â
After matching its highest appearance in the AP rankings last week, Syracuse moved up one spot in the most recent poll release. Syracuse has been ranked in the top 25 of the AP Poll in each of the six five poll releases, which is a program-first.
Â
The squad is one spot shy of matching its highest appearance in the major national polls. The Orange was ranked No. 18 in the country in the USA Today Coaches Poll during the 2012-13 season.
