
Orange Hosts Canisius in Home Opener

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- No. 2/3 Syracuse looks to keep its early-season momentum going when it takes on Canisius in its home opener on Sunday, Feb. 16. Opening draw in the Carrier Dome is set for 1 p.m.
Tickets for Sunday's game are available for $5. SU students will be admitted free of charge. The women's game is part of a doubleheader with the Orange men's lacrosse team, which hosts Albany at 4 p.m. Fans entering the Dome after halftime of the women's game will be charged for a men's ticket. Parking in the Dome West lots will be free until halftime of the women's game.
GAME-DAY EXPERIENCE
Fans at Sunday's game will enjoy a new enhanced game-day experience, which will include contests and giveaways. Patrons should pick up a game-day program, which includes a coupon for free yogurt from Yogurtland as well as a number that puts them in contention for a lucky number prize package drawing. Programs will be available free of charge at gates A and B. Syracuse students will receive a coupon for a free slice of pizza from the Varsity.
Additional prize packages will be given away to contest winners. Prizes will include items from Syracuse women's lacrosse sponsors, including Nike, STX, Sedgwick Office Interiors, Summitt Cars, Mulrooney's, Panera Bread, Empower Federal Credit Union, Yogurtland and Varsity Pizza.

What to Watch For - Syracuse (2-0)
1. Syracuse started the season with a pair of victories in Florida. The Orange defeated Jacksonville, 21-7, before defeating Stetson, 25-0.
2. Senior Alyssa Murray is Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Player of the Year. Murray was a Tewaaraton Award finalist last season and an IWLCA All-America First Team honoree. She registered 12 points in the first two games of the season on eight goals and four assists.
3. Junior Kailah Kempney recorded 12 draw controls in Syracuse's win against Stetson, which is the highest single-game total in school history. Kempney leads the team with 18 draw controls, helping the Orange to a 40-16 advantage in the circle.
What to Watch For - Canisius (0-0)
1. Canisius was picked to repeat as MAAC champions in a preseason vote by the league's head coaches. The Golden Griffins finished the 2013 season with a 14-5 record and advanced to the NCAA Tournament.
2. Senior midfielder Maria Kotas and junior attack Tori Quinn were chosen as the MAAC Preseason Co-Players of the Year. Kotas recorded a career-high 67 points last season, while Quinn set school single-season records for goals (47) and assists (32).
3. Scott Teeter is in his 12th season at the helm of the Canisius program. He has guided the Golden Griffins to three consecutive MAAC titles.
THE SERIES
Syracuse defeated Canisius in the only other meeting between the two schools. Gary Gait made his debut on the Orange sideline when the Orange defeated the Golden Griffins, 24-3, in the 2008 season opener.
