Will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior guard Diamond Henderson of the Syracuse University women's basketball team will miss the remainder of the 2014-15 season after sustaining an injury to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in her left knee.
Â
Henderson was injured in the second half of the Orange's regular season finale at Clemson on Feb. 26. At that point, Henderson had recorded three points, two rebounds, and one assist against the Tigers.
Â
The Kennesaw, Ga. native made a tremendous impact in her first and only season in Orange. After transferring from Tennessee Tech, Henderson ranked third on the team in scoring during the 2014-15 regular season, averaging 10.5 points per contest.
Â
Henderson stepped up to the spotlight against No. 9/9 Baylor at the Florida Sunshine Classic on Dec. 19. She recorded a season-best 27 points on 5-of-7 shooting from beyond the 3-point arc against the Lady Bears. It marked the second-most points scored by a Syracuse player during the 2014-15 regular season.
Â
"When you go into these situations, they are my daughters," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "I hurt for them. When you get the news, your heart sinks, and you feel bad. Hopefully, she can get a full recovery and continue with her career."
