Syracuse ends the regular season on a nine-game win streak
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse University women's basketball team certainly has found its stride at the most important part of the year, ending the 2015-16 regular season on a program-record nine-game conference win streak with a 71-55 victory at Boston College on Feb. 25.
Â
"It's tremendous. Our kids just compete," head coach Quentin Hillsman stated. "I don't know what more to say, they just play at an extremely high level. I have to give them all the credit for grinding through these games and playing tough."
Â
Since an 18-point setback against No. 14/17 Louisville on Jan. 25, the Orange have run off nine straight victories, topping No. 16/17 Miami and No. 10/9 Florida State. Syracuse finished the 2015-16 regular season with a 13-3 record in league competition, clinching the third seed for the upcoming conference tournament. It marks the squad's best finish as a league member.
Â
Guards Brianna Butler, Alexis Peterson, and Brittney Sykes have been key in the Orange's run. Butler and Peterson each have averaged more than 15.0 points per game in that stretch. Sykes has contributed 11.1 points per contest and has tallied at least 15 points in each of the past three games.
Â
Syracuse will kick off postseason play in the quarterfinals of the 2016 ACC Tournament on Friday, March 4. Tipoff is set for 8 p.m. in Greensboro, N.C. The game will be broadcast on the Regional Sports Networks.
