LOS ANGELES – Senior guard Alexis Peterson of the Syracuse women's basketball team was named to the 2017 John R. Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, as announced on ESPN on Wednesday night. The Wooden Award is presented annually to the nation's most outstanding player.
A child and family studies major in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics, Peterson has continued to add to her already impressive list of accolades for the 2016-17 campaign. A Preseason All-Atlantic Coast Conference honoree, she has been named the conference's player of the week three times this season. In addition, she has been recognized on the watch lists for Nancy Lieberman Award, Naismith Trophy, and Wade Trophy.
Peterson currently averages 22.7 points, 7.5 assists, and 3.2 steals per contest. The Columbus, Ohio native leads the league in scoring and assists and ranks in the top-10 nationally in both categories. She currently ranks sixth in program history with 1,593 career points, 13 points shy of moving into fifth place.
The senior guard leads the Orange into their next contest, a matchup with No. 23/22 NC State on Thursday night. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. in the Carrier Dome. The game will be broadcast on ACC Network Extra, as well.
