Syracuse opens the season against Morgan State
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's basketball team officially began practice on Sunday, October 1 for the upcoming 2017-18 campaign. Syracuse opens the season on Friday, November 10 when it hosts Morgan State in the Carrier Dome.
"It's really exciting," head coach Quentin Hillsman said at the end of practice on Sunday afternoon. "We have new players. You have to teach your system again. We have to emphasize some things that we didn't have to in the past couple, but it's good. It's a challenge. It's fun."
The 2016-17 Orange advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season, one of 15 programs nationally to do so. Sophomore guard Gabby Cooper, a 2017 All-Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman Team honoree, leads a returning core that joins with one of the nation's top recruiting classes to form the 2017-18 squad.
"We need them all to get acclimated into what we are doing," Hillsman stated. "We have players around that have done it. They are going to lead the way and will be very good for us."
