#11 Orange Use Strong Second Half to Defeat Loyola

BALTIMORE, Md. – No. 11 Syracuse broke open a tight game in the second half to defeat --/rv Loyola, 16-11, in Baltimore, Md. on Wednesday, April 5. The win was the second straight for the Orange, which improved their record to 10-4.

"This was a tight, back and forth game," said Syracuse head coach Gary Gait. "We made a couple of plays and were able to pull away at the end. We haven't been able to do that much this year so I was happy with that."

HOW IT WAS DECIDED
A back-and-forth first half that featured five ties and four lead changes ended in a 5-5 tie. The squads traded goals to start the second half before junior Alie Jimerson and redshirt freshman Cara Quimby recorded back-to-back goals to put the Orange up by two, 8-6, with 22:43 remaining.

The squads traded goals before senior Devon Parker converted a free-position attempt for the first of three straight for Syracuse as the Orange built a 13-9 lead with 9:22 remaining. The Greyhounds (5-7) answered with back-to-back goals to pull within two, but Syracuse recorded the final three goals of the game to post the 16-11 final.

OF NOTE
Jimerson recorded a season-high five points as she tied her career high with three goals. Senior Riley Donahue also had three goals, including the 100th of her career, to go along with one goal. Freshman Emily Hawryschuk tied her career high with four points (3g, 1a), while Junior Kelzi Van Atta also tied her career high with three points (2g, 1a).

After playing three straight road games, Syracuse returns home to take on No. 20/15 Virginia Tech on Sunday, April 9 at the SU Soccer Stadium at 1 p.m. Admission and parking are free of charge. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for a pregame ceremony honoring Syracuse's senior class.
