SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- No. 15/11 Syracuse jumped out to an early lead, but No. 1/1 Boston College mounted a comeback and held on for a 14-12 victory in the Carrier Dome. The game was the ACC opener for both teams.
Â
"I give out team credit for not giving up," Syracuse head coach Gary Gait said. "I thought we saw some real positives out there. We have the opportunity to get better as the season goes."
Â
HOW IT WAS DECIDED
The Orange (2-1, 0-1) used a 6-1 scoring run to take a 7-2 lead with 8:10 remaining in the second half. Senior Nicole Levy and junior Emily Hawryschuk had two goals each during the offensive outburst. Sam Apuzzo scored Boston College's first goal in more than 15 minutes at the 7:28 mark, which was the first of three straight for the Eagles as they closed the gap to 8-5 at halftime.
Â
Boston College (2-0, 1-0) scored five of the first six goals of the second half to take the lead, 11-8. Back-to-back goals by Hawryschuk brought the Orange back within one, 11-10, but the Eagles scored three straight to take their largest lead of the game, 14-10 with 1:49 remaining.
Â
Syracuse wouldn't go away and found the back of the net twice in the final 1:07, but couldn't get any closer as Boston College held on for the 14-12 victory.
Â
OF NOTE
