CHICAGO – Syracuse signee Julianna Walker is the 2020-21 Gatorade Washington Girls Basketball Player of the Year. The award recognizes athletic excellence, academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the court of Walker as Washington's best high school girls basketball player. Walker is the first student-athlete in Annie Wright Schools' history to win the award.
In a pandemic-shortened season, the 5-foot-4 guard led Annie Wright Schools to a 10-0 record while averaging 34.3 points, 9.7 assists, 8.1 steals and 7.6 rebounds per game. Walker finished her high school career with 2,834 points, third most in state history and 158 points behind the all-time leading scorer Hailey Van Lith (Cashmere/University of Louisville). Walker was a First Team All-State selection as a junior and was named the Nisqually League MVP.
Off the court, Walker is a member of her church choir. She volunteers locally with youth sports programs and Annie Wright Schools Black Student Union.
Walker is one of two incoming Orange that have been named Gatorade State Player of the Year during their high school career. Eboni Walker, a transfer from Arizona State, was previously named Nevada's 2018-19 Gatorade State Player of the Year. Walker is part of Syracuse's No. 11 ranked incoming class by ESPN.
