As the Syracuse Orange prepare to host Pittsburgh in the Carrier Dome on Sunday, Jan. 30 (12 p.m., ACC Network), we continue our Q&A series to help you get to know your Orange! In this edition we talk with graduate student Naje Murray.
- What is your favorite memory while at Syracuse University?
My favorite memory on the court is beating #18 Ohio State at home. It was special to see everyone just enjoy and really be in the moment. Off the court, the nights where everyone is hanging out in my apartment in pajamas enjoying each other's company, those nights are everything!
- What is your favorite thing about your home state of California?
The weather! I will never take it for granted again. Also being close to family and friends.
- Why is your Nana someone that you look up to?
It's rare for people to be best friends with their Nana and the fact that we are is special. She exemplifies everything good and I try to walk in my faith like her.
- What is your dream job?
My dream job? What a question! I love sports and right now there's so many opportunities in the game and I'm hoping to land a position that people like me aren't in and make history, somewhere.
- What is the first thing you do after a great win?
I'm a huge hugger (ask my teammates) so when we win, I hug more than usual. And a little dance party never hurts!
- Would you rather cook a lavish meal or go to a restaurant? Why?
I LOVE the restaurant scene. I enjoy cooking, but going out to eat and sit down is so fun. I love talking to the employees and the busyness of restaurant.
- What is your favorite song to listen to during pregame?
My pregame song actually alters a lot. However, I always have a gospel song in there and Blood, Sweat and Tears by Future is an automatic.
- What do you think are your strengths while on the court?
I really believe my heart is my strength. I try to operate where my heart is on my sleeve so everyone can see that's something I will give every night. I hope that is what I am remembered by.
- What made Syracuse the place you wanted to come play basketball?
It surely wasn't the weather! I'm just kidding. I wanted a new experience in a new conference. A master's degree from Syracuse was hard to beat and I'm truly grateful.
- What do you think makes this team so special?
Nothing is more special about this team than who we are off the court. I've been on a lot of teams with a lot of different people and these girls have some of the most genuine and authentic souls I've ever been around and that is what makes them special.
