
'Cuse Winning Streak Snapped Against Seawolves

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – No. 5 Syracuse had its two-game winning streak snapped in a 13-12 overtime loss to No. 12 Stony Brook on Tuesday in the JMA Wireless Dome. The Orange tied the score with 10 seconds remaining in regulation, but the Seawolves scored the game winner in overtime.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The game featured eight ties as neither team led by more than two goals. Stony Brook (5-0) led, 5-4, at halftime before the Orange (3-3) tallied three-straight goals to start the third quarter. Emma Tyrrell started the scoring run with the first of her three goals to even the score at 5-5. Meghan Rode gave Syracuse its first lead, and Savannah Sweitzer put the Orange up 7-5 with 8:36 on the clock in the third quarter. The Seawolves responded with a 3-0 run of its own and the teams went to the fourth quarter tied at 8-8.

Stony Brook took a 9-8 lead on a goal by Kailyn Hart, but Syracuse answered with three-straight free-position goals and led 11-9 with 7:23 to play in the fourth quarter. The Seawolves again rallied and Ellie Masera's goal at the 1:08 mark gave Stony Brook a 12-11 advantage.

The Orange won the ensuing draw and Maddy Baxter found the back of the net with 10 seconds on the clock on the assist from Tyrrell to even the score at 12-12 and send the game to overtime. Stony Brook won the draw to start the extra session and Masera scored on the assist from Morgan Mitchell to give Syracuse its second overtime loss this season.

The Orange return to ACC play on Saturday, March 9 when it faces Virginia Tech in Blacksburg at noon.
