#5 Orange Rebound Against Hokies

BLACKSBURG, Virginia – No. 5 Syracuse scored the first seven goals of the game and went on to a 15-5 victory at Virginia Tech on Saturday. The win improved the Orange's record to 4-3 overall, 3-0 in ACC play.

Three players recorded hat tricks for Syracuse, including Emma Ward, who posted a season-high six points. On the defensive end, Katie Goodale caused a career-high five turnovers to go along with four ground balls and two draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Syracuse jumped out to an early lead as Maddy Baxter scored the first of her three goals 1:14 into the game, sparking the Orange on a 7-0 scoring run. Baxter found the back of the net twice during the run, while Ward had a goal and two assists. The Orange scored twice in the final minute of the first quarter before Savannah Sweitzer scored the first goal of the second quarter to give 'Cuse a commanding lead.

Virginia Tech (5-3, 1-2) broke through with two-straight goals, but Olivia Adamson and Sweitzer scored back-to-back goals to send the Orange to the locker room with a 9-2 halftime lead.

The second half featured more 'Cuse offense, while the defense limited the Hokies to just five shots combined in the third and fourth quarters.

Adamson finished with a hat trick to increase her season totals to 20 goals and 31 points, both of which lead the team. She has scored multiple goals in six of seven games this season.

Kate Mashewske recorded 11 draw controls, helping the Orange to a 13-10 advantage in the draw circle. She has now posted 10+ draw controls in three of the last four games.

Delaney Sweitzer and the Orange defense allowed a season-best five goals in the victory. Sweitzer recorded four saves, three ground balls and a caused turnover.
