Top-Seed Orange Advance to ACCT Semis

CHARLOTTE, North Carolina – No. 1 seed Syracuse defeated Louisville, 17-9, to advance to the ACC Tournament semifinals for the second-straight year. The Orange will face No. 5 seed Virginia in the semifinals on Friday.

Emma Tyrrell and Emma Ward led the 'Cuse offense in the win. Tyrrell posted six points (4g, 2a), while Ward finished with four points (3g, 1a). Overall, nine different players scored at least one goal, with five finding the back of the net multiple times.

On the defensive end, Katie Goodale tied her career high with five caused turnovers and became Syracuse's single-season leader with 40 in 2024. She also picked up four ground balls.

Kate Mashewske recorded 15 draw controls, including the 500th of her career. She becomes just the ninth player in Division I history to reach the milestone.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Cardinals (8-11) led, 3-2, before Payton Rowley scored on an assist from Savannah Sweitzer to spark the Orange (13-4) on a 6-0 scoring run over the final 7:05 of the first quarter. Sweitzer scored two goals during the run.

The Orange led, 10-5, and pushed the advantage to 17-7 with 4:08 remaining in the game. Leading 12-7, Natalie Smith found the back of the net for the first of five-straight goals for Syracuse that gave 'Cuse its largest lead of the day. The Cardinals tallied the final two goals of the game for the 17-9 final.

Syracuse improved its ACC Tournament record to 14-8, including an 8-2 mark in the quarterfinals.

The Orange defense has held its opponent to less than 10 goals in four of its last five games. Delaney Sweitzer made six saves and picked up three ground balls in the victory.
