Senior guard Erica Morrow and sophomore guard Carmen Tyson-Thomas each netted a season-high 16 points to lead Syracuse (3-0) to a 90-36 win against Long Island (2-1) on Monday night at the Carrier Dome. The win extended SU's non-conference unbeaten streak to 31 consecutive home games, including 25 in the Carrier Dome.
The Orange had 10 players score in the win, including four in double figures. Morrow was 5-16 from the floor, including a pair of threes while dishing out a team-best six assists. Tyson-Thomas notched her fourth-career double-double with 16 points on 5-12 shooting, including a trio of threes while pulling in a team-best 10 rebounds.
Syracuse held a 49-22 advantage in bench points, thanks in part to 13 points by redshirt freshman forward Shakeya Leary and 12 by freshman guard La'Shay Taft. Leary added nine rebounds while all of Taft's points came from behind the arc.
Long Island opened the game with a 7-4 advantage through the first six minutes but Syracuse quickly rallied, using a 10-0 run to take a 14-7 lead with 11:12 to play in the first half. Tyson-Thomas propelled the run with back-to-back 3-pointers while Morrow and Harris each added a pair.
Ahead, 20-11, the Orange steadily outscored the Blackbirds, 23-7, through the next eight minutes to go into the break with a 45-18 lead, the largest for SU this season.
Syracuse continued to cruise out of the intermission, taking a 76-24, with 6:09 left on the clock. The Orange built its advantage with an 11-0 run in which it shut out the Blackbirds for more than five minutes. SU maintained its edge throughout the remainder of regulation, cruising to a 90-36 win.
The Orange returns to the friendly confines of the Carrier Dome on Monday, November 29 when it hosts New Hampshire in a 7 p.m. matchup.
