SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- For the 17th time in school history the No. 3/3 Syracuse women's lacrosse team will face the No. 1-ranked team when its hosts defending national champion North Carolina on Saturday, April 12 in the Carrier Dome. Opening draw is set for 3 p.m.
Saturday's contest is the first game of a doubleheader with the SU men's lacrosse team, which also takes on the Tar Heels at 6 p.m. Individual game tickets for all Syracuse women's lacrosse home games can be purchased for $5. Fans who enter the Carrier Dome after halftime of the women's game will be charged for a men's tickets ($10). What to Watch For – Syracuse (12-1, 4-1)
1. Senior Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.) is the NCAA active leader in career points with 310. She also ranks third in goals (195) and fourth in assists (115) on the active leader lists. Murray ranks third on SU's all-time scoring list and is fourth in career goals and third in career assists.
2. Sophomore Kayla Treanor (Niskayuna, N.Y.) is averaging 5.33 points per game, which lead the ACC. She ranks second in the league with 3.33 goals per game and is tied for first in assists per game with teammate Alyssa Murray (West Babylon, N.Y.). Both are averaging 2.00 assists per contest. In addition, Treanor's six game-winning goals lead the league.
3. Senior Kasey Mock (Pottstown, Pa.) was added to the Tewaaraton Award Watch list earlier this week. Mock has recorded career highs in ground balls (22) and caused turnovers (19) this season. She leads the team in both categories.
What to Watch For – North Carolina (12-1, 5-0)
1. North Carolina rebounded from its 7-5 loss to No. 6/7 Northwestern with a 17-15 victory against No. 2/2 Maryland on Saturday. The Tar Heels are now 12-1 overall and are atop the ACC standings with a 5-0 league record.
2. Saturday's game will feature the top two scoring offenses in the country. North Carolina leads the nation, averaging 17.31 points per game, while the Orange is right behind, posting 16.15 points per contest.
3. Abbey Friend is the top scorer for the potent Tar Heels' offense. She leads the squad with 59 points on a team-high 45 goals and 14 assists. Goalkeeper Caylee Waters leads the ACC in goals against average at 6.86.
THE SERIES
Saturday's matchup will be the fourth meeting between the two schools, with Syracuse holding the series lead at two games to one. Their last meeting resulted in a dramatic 17-16 Syracuse victory in the quarterfinal round on the 2012 NCAA Tournament in the Carrier Dome. The Orange trailed by two in the final three minutes, but Syracuse scored the final three goals, including the game-winner by Michelle Tumolo with just five seconds remaining, to defeat the Tar Heels and advance to the Final Four.
