BLACKSBURG, V.A.- No. 2 seed Syracuse begins defense of its ACC Women's Lacrosse Championship when it opens play in the 2016 tournament against the No. 7 seed Boston College on Thursday, April 28. Opening draw at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Va. is set for 5 p.m.

TITLE DEFENSE
Last season, the Orange captured their first ACC Championship when they defeated No. 1 seed North Carolina, 9-8 in two overtimes, in the title game. It completed a sweep of the No. 4-, No. 3- and No. 2-ranked teams in the nation in a span of four days as Syracuse became the first sixth seed to win the title. This season, the Orange posted a 5-2 conference record to earn the No. 2 seed. Entering the tournament, Syracuse ranks second in the conference in assists per game (6.65), third in points per game (19.56), and first in draw controls per game (14.28).

SCOUTING THE EAGLES
After losing their final game of the season to Johns Hopkins, Boston College comes into Thursday's contest with a 10-7 overall record. The Eagles are the No. 7 seed in the tournament after posting a 2-5 record in conference play. Boston College is 2-10 all-time in the ACC Tournament since joining the conference in 2006. Junior Kate Weeks leads the team in goals (38), while senior captain Sarah Mannelly leads the team in assists with 31, which rank 11th in the nation. Zoe Ochoa has started all 17 games in goal for the Eagles. The junior currently has a 10.09 goals-against average and a .396 save percentage.

THE SERIES
Syracuse and Boston College will meet for the 16th time on Thursday, with the Orange leading the series 13-2. Boston College has taken the last two-regular season meetings, but the Orange prevailed in last season's ACC Tournament, defeating the Eagles, 14-13 in double overtime.

UP NEXT…
The winner of the quarterfinal between Syracuse and Boston College will play the winner of the matchup between No. 6 seed Louisville and No. 3 seed Notre Dame in the second ACC Semifinal game on Friday, April 29 at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that game will play for the ACC title on Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m. The conference champion will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
