Orange Post Strong Showing vs. Loaded Virginia Invitational Field

The Syracuse men took fourth at the Virginia Invitational, a strong showing in a field that featured 14 of the nation's top-30 teams.
No. 1 Northern Arizona won the overall meet with 71 points, followed by No. 3 BYU (101 points) and No. 6 North Carolina (157 points), who just edged the No. 11 Orange. Still the 'Cuse bested three of the nation's top-10 teams in the meet.
Paul O'Donnell was Syracuse's top finisher, crossing the line of the 8k course in 23:42.3, which earned him 19th overall. Perry Mackinnon (31st/13:47.1), Sam Lawler (35th/23:52.2), Assaf Harari (38th/23:55.1) and Alex Comerford (44th/23:57.8) showed off the Orange's depth by all finishing within 13 places of one another.
Matthew Scrape (24:24.7), Ethan Wechsler (24:41.6), Alex Herbst (25:38.5), Julian Franjieh (25:44.3) and Joey Eovaldi (26:09.5) rounded out the men's field.
The 'Cuse women finished 10th in a loaded field that featured nine of the nation's top-15 teams. Savannah Roark was the top finisher in her first race of the season, taking 41st in 17:02.9.
Like the men. The Orange's next four finishers weren't far behind. Rylie Lusk (17:09.4) was in 50th, followed four sports later by Olivia Joly (17:13.5) and five spots after that by Sophia Jacobs-Townsley (17:16.8). Baneet Baines finished 67th in 17:21.2 to round out the scoring.
Emma Eastman (17:36.6), Madison Neuner (17:37.4), Madeline Heintz (18:06.0), Caroline Kirby (18:18.1) and Siobhan O'Keefe (18:41.2) were the rest of the Orange in the field.
'Cuse is back in action next weekend at the Coast-to-Coast Battle in Beantown.
